As you know if you've read previous posts on this blog, I am only partially capable of swimming. I am committed to at least being a little less pathetic next time out.
In that spirit, I headed out to the reservoir on Sunday afternoon and spent a little quality time in the water. I am resigned to the fact that I will not be free style swimming any time soon. For whatever reason I cannot get my breathing together and I end up having a difficult time relaxing and getting my breath back. My best guess is that this is a mental thing that will begin to clear up with more time in the water. Until then, I'm a side stroker.
I swam 3/4 miles without resting, which is a victory in and of itself. Most of the time I did a side stroke and I finished 750 meters well ahead of the time from my last "race". If I can just stay relaxed, I should be able to beat my previous time by a significant margin. Hopefully, I will get in two more practice swims before the next race I will enter in two weeks. With a little practive, I would like to think I can move up from 45th place overall to top 25 overall.
Any advice?
