My neighbor Eddie has been known to hunt elk, deer, bear, bobcat, and cougar; among other animals. He hunts with a bow or a fire arm and gets out whenever he can. Just this month, he completed a hunting trifecta that I hadn't even considered before now. This all happened over the course of 10 days not far outside of Golden, CO.
First, he bagged a mature cow elk. Beautiful animal that should taste great, too! Next, he bagged the beautiful bobcat shown below.
What a specimen this is! Eddie is going to send me a full picture soon. This is a mature male bobcat in it's prime. Check out the teeth. Spectacular! It weighed in at a full 40 pounds. Now that is quite a bobcat and a real trophy.
Days later Eddie shot this mountain lion in almost the exact same spot where he bagged the bobcat just 5 days earlier. The cougar is an adult female that was aged at 9 years old by the game warden.
She weighed in at a hefty 140 pounds, but was in the decline of her life. This cat must have been quite a lion in her prime, but at this point she had no upper teeth in the back and was probably a better scavenger than hunter. At any rate, any cougar is quite a prize and this was no exception.
Be sure to check back in a few days and I will have full body pictures of both cats. Congratulations Eddie. It's been quite a year hunting for you, and it's only January.
Check out this page for another interesting bobcat story. And, to see why I carry a .357 magnum when I go hiking, check out this big cat picture.
